I first became interested in magic when I was 4 years old when I was at Disneyland and a wonderfully funny comedic magician by the name of Dana Daniels (video) called me up on stage. I instantly fell in love with magic! Later, when I was 11 years old I joined the Society of Young Magicians. By the time I was 12 years old the Past National President of the Society of American Magicians, Loren Lind, recommended me for my first paid position performing for the City of Pleasant Hill! From there my magic just seemed to take off and I was performing more and more.
In 2006 I won my first award, The Society of Young Magicians Performer of the Year, Assembly #112. When I turned 14 I was finally allowed to join the Society of American Magicians. I was so excited. I had known, loved, and respected my mentors for the many years of encouragement they had provided me as a SYM member and now I was a part of their affiliation. What a sense of accomplishment! In 2008 I entered the Society of American Magicians Annual Professional Stage Contest and won first place. It was a great honor because I could not have done it without all the support of my wonderful magician friends and my parents who were always there to help me.
I have had many opportunities to meet excellent world-renowned magicians at California Magic who have also been extremely encouraging. I have felt blessed because over the years some of them have continued to check up on me and have continued to encourage me to keep up my hard work.
My parents and I are very close and they are a big part of my magic. My dad does an awesome job building custom illusions for me while my mom helps me to routine my acts and is my assistant. No matter what I do, they are always there supporting me 100%. I feel blessed to have such a loving family.
This year I hit another milestone: I turned 16! It also meant that I was able to get my first job. For five years I had volunteered in my community as a volunteer counselor working with youths. When I turned 16 I went from a volunteer counselor to a full-time paid counselor in the summer where I was one of two counselors that ran a Theatre Camp. Each week my co-worker and I would write and direct a musical that the kids would put on for the community each Friday. It was an amazing experience! I have been asked to stay on year-round and will be working part-time during the school year and plan to return next summer full time working as a Counselor. I can’t wait!
Aside from magic and work, both of which I love, my main goal is to achieve academically. As much as I love performing I know my schooling is a priority. I have a lifetime to perform, but just a few short years before college. I am currently a Junior in high school and on my third term on Student Council and hope to serve my class through our Senior year if so elected.
In February 2010 I was selected to represent my school at U.C. Berkeley’s 12th Annual Teens Tackle Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drugs Conference. It was a rewarding and educational experience on how teens can help tackle the problems today’s youth face and bring that information back into their own school systems.
I hope that being able to learn a little more about me will help you see my dedication to my magic, family, community, and academics. I always strive for excellence and I will make it my goal to give 100% of myself to you and your event to make it a success!
